Welcome to Ladies Car .com .au

This web site is dedicated to ladies looking to buy a car in Australia

The first item to look at when buying a car, old or new, used or brand spanking, second hand or sparkling direct from the factory, is COLOUR or color as the Americans like to spell it

The exterior paint colour is important, if you, an Australian lady, are to feel exhilarated by purchasing a motor vehicle

The car manufacturers give little choice for interior colours. That can easily be fixed by modern seat covers and other fabrics to cover the ugly male dominated interior

For example a steering wheel cover can not only be kind to your hands, it can also enhance the look of the car's interior

So choose your car firstly by the colour that compliments your style

If choosing a new car, remember that once you have come to am agreement on price with the dealer, they will always want more money for your chosen colour

They will point to the small type with an asterisk in the sales literature that says things like "Metallic paint extra $500"

The fact that you don't even want to know what metallic paint is,  let alone want to pay for it will not make any difference

The colour you want is always only available in metallic paint

White is about the only colour that does not have a surcharge

Mind you white can be very flattering, except if you have an extra large rear end, and then it is definitely preferable to go with another colour

If you live in the inner suburbs of Melbourne you will probably need to pay the extra to get black, so that it will match most of your wardrobe.

More about buying a new car.........

A sign for a car

Your budget does not necessarily mean you have to buy a second hand car

Many new cars are cheaper than used cars even for the same model

Insurance will also be much cheaper for a new car than for a second hand car

However you might decide that you need a second hand car, mainly because you cannot get a new car for under $10k unless you are willing to move to India

The colour of a second hand car will make your decision to buy a lot easier

You will not have to worry about the make and model like you do with a new car

Only look at used cars that have the right colour for you

When the car sellers talk about highlights they are not referring to the colour as in your hair or even the headlights

They mean all this garbage about what a car can do

Just ignore the highlights

If you want a black car ( because you live in inner Melbourne) insist on only looking at black cars

It is possible though not very practical to change the colour of a car

Not really worth the effort though because you will have to deal with men known as panel beaters and they usually only like to talk to people who have had a car crash because that way they can get paid by an insurance company, and not have to provide customer service

So for example , if you have decided you want a second hand black car, then only look at black cars.

Let's talk about the price range , the location, the running costs, the ease of parking , the tone of the horn, how easy it is to use the petrol tank and remain clean, safety ( both form cars and people ), reliability and resale value

More about price....

Basically you work out how much a cab will cost you to the city then multiply it by 2 for a return journey and then multiply by 500

So if the can fare to the city is $20, then you need to buy a car for 20 times 2 times 500

I made it 500 because it is easy to work out in your head

The formula converts to $20 by 1000 or just add three zeros to the cab fare

A $20 cab fare requires a car worth $20,000

If you think you do not have $20,000, it doesn't matter because you can easily borrow it based on the fact you are going to save that much in cab fares

If you have a lousy credit rating, you may have to decrease the amount to what you can afford

Do not under any circumstance buy a car for less than $12, no matter how bad your credit rating is

There are good reasons for paying more than a $12 for a car. I do not need to discuss those reasons here.

It is more of an accountants role

Once you have decided how much you can spend on a car, you will need to change the amount you have to a price range, because this is how you buy a car

You buy a car in a price range not a price

The actual amount you pay will the the upper limit of your price range plus 10%

There are five price ranges for used cars. They are

$12 to $999

$1000 to $3000

$3001 to $5000

$5000 to $10000

$10000 to $20000

For new cars the price ranges are fewer

Only 3

$10000 to $16000

$16001 to $22000

$22001 to $880000

There are a few other choices to make

Manual or automatic

MP3 car radio or with equalizer or without

Diesel , unleaded petrol, zoomed up petrol or LPG

This not really a choice. Diesel and LPG get your hands dirty when refilling and none really know what the other types of petrol are named

So stick with an unleaded petrol car. This is especially important for new car buyers because some of the new cars only run on some weird version of petrol that will always be hard to find and more expensive
